The development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, new investments and stronger international partnerships are essential to accelerating e-mobility in Serbia, it was highlighted at the Serbia eMobility Forum 2026, organised in Belgrade by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia (CCIS) in cooperation with the U.S. company VoltiE Group.
Serbia has significant potential for the development of e-mobility, but accelerating the expansion of electric vehicle use requires faster development of charging infrastructure, said Marko Čadež, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia.
He recalled that almost two years ago, CCIS established its E-Mobility Centre, bringing together car and equipment manufacturers, companies developing infrastructure and other relevant stakeholders in the sector, with the aim of accelerating the development of the entire e-mobility ecosystem through cooperation.
Čadež pointed out that Serbia is the only country in the region manufacturing electric vehicles, thanks to Stellantis, which has production facilities in the country. Although Serbia is still lagging behind in e-mobility adoption, the fact that registrations of fully electric vehicles increased by almost 300 per cent in the first six months of this year compared with the same period last year is encouraging. Nevertheless, with just over 10,000 registered electric vehicles and only around 250 charging points, infrastructure development needs to accelerate significantly to drive this process forward, Čadež said.

Speaking about the potential of the domestic economy, he stressed that more than 500 companies from Serbia's automotive industry supply the world's leading car and equipment manufacturers. These companies produce not only components and technologically advanced parts for electric vehicles but also develop software solutions, while international companies such as Bosch have established their own R&D centres in Serbia. This represents significant potential for further sector development and attracting new investment, Čadež noted. He particularly highlighted the interest shown by VoltiE and BIM, which acquired the Serbian company AIGO two years ago, in launching electric vehicle charging equipment production in Kraljevo for the European market.
Edward Genin, Chief Executive Officer of VoltiE Group, said that e-mobility is no longer a distant future but a rapidly developing reality in Serbia as well. He cited the example of the United States, where annual electric vehicle sales have increased from approximately 17,000 in 2011 to more than 1.2 million today.
He stressed that infrastructure development is essential to building consumer confidence and encouraging wider adoption of electric vehicles. Thanks to its geographical position, skilled workforce and growing market, Serbia is well positioned to attract new investment and become an important regional hub for e-mobility development.

Genin emphasised VoltiE's strong commitment to doing business in Serbia and announced plans to launch production of JuiceBox chargers. As he noted, this product has already been installed more than one million times worldwide, and the company aims to develop projects in cooperation with partners that will contribute to the growth of e-mobility in Serbia. He also highlighted the economic benefits of expanding the charging network, which can stimulate business for restaurants, hotels, shopping centres and other service providers, as drivers can use charging time for shopping, leisure or other activities. One of the Forum's key objectives, he added, is to develop a joint roadmap for e-mobility in Serbia for 2027 and 2028, outlining specific projects and partnerships.

Alexander Titolo, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Serbia, stressed that energy, innovation and private-sector cooperation are important areas for further strengthening economic relations between Serbia and the United States. He emphasised that U.S. companies, with their advanced technologies, expertise and high standards, can make a significant contribution to the development of Serbia's energy sector and e-mobility. He underlined that the U.S. Embassy supports stronger bilateral cooperation and that 2027 will offer new opportunities to expand economic partnerships and investment.
Kristin Melsom, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Serbia, noted that Norway's experience demonstrates that a rapid transition to electric mobility is possible through consistent government policies, well-developed charging infrastructure, incentives and public-private sector cooperation. She stated that almost 98 per cent of newly registered passenger cars in Norway this year are fully electric, emphasising that tax incentives and building consumer confidence have been key to achieving this result.

According to her, Norway's model cannot simply be replicated in Serbia, which has its own energy, economic and transport specificities, but the exchange of experience can help advance e-mobility. She pointed out that the green transition creates new opportunities for investment, innovation and enhanced competitiveness, adding that there is considerable scope for Serbia and Norway to deepen their cooperation in energy and sustainable development.

Through a series of expert panel discussions, the Forum brought together representatives of institutions, energy and technology companies, charging point operators, equipment manufacturers and investors, with the aim of initiating concrete projects and accelerating the development of e-mobility in Serbia. Discussions focused on the development of charging infrastructure, electricity grid capacity, site selection, permitting procedures, digital solutions and financing models.
