Member States of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) today elected Serbia as the host country of Specialised Expo 2027.

In the harsh competition, after four rounds of voting during the BIE’s 172nd General Assembly, a majority of Member States voted for Serbia’s project to organize the next Specialised Expo in the city of Belgrade under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All”, between 15 May and 15 August 2027.

" A huge amount of work has been done for Serbia and for Belgrade. Right now, we may not even be aware of how important this is. It is about thousands of new jobs, a unique opportunity to attract hundreds of thousands of people who have never been to our city and to create new jobs for our companies. I truly thank the people from the Expo team, the Government, and the President of Serbia for believing in this project from the beginning and doing everything to tell the whole world that we are the winning city, country, and region", said Marko Čadež, the President of The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia.

Serbia was one of the five candidates in addition to the USA, Thailand, Spain, and Argentina, and the only country from Southeast Europe that applied to be the host country of this prestigious exhibition.

Expos are global events that explore a chosen theme through engaging and immersive discoveries. Among the different categories of Expos, Specialised Expos are designed to respond to a precise challenge facing humanity and may take place in the interval between two World Expos.

The most recent Specialised Expo, Expo 2017 Astana, took place in the capital of Kazakhstan under the theme “Future Energy”, and received almost 4 million visits.
