With the signing of the Memorandum between the Dubai Logistics Passport (DP World), the Government of Serbia, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, today Serbia became the first European country to join the World Logistics Passport network (WLP), which will enable Serbian companies’ higher level of competitiveness and connectivity.
The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, Marko Čadež, pointed out that negotiations with DP World began a year ago, with aim of improving logistics transport for Serbian companies. "The World Logistics Passport (WLP) allows us to do precisely that - to provide our companies with faster transportation, reduced transport costs, and practically a new logistics line that can shorten the time of the transport of goods to the markets of Africa, the Gulf, Asia, and the Middle East. This is great for our companies", pointed out Čadež.
"Today, we have done a great job for Serbia and for the city of Novi Sad, we keep developing water infrastructure and investing in water transport. With today's signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, Serbian companies will gain much better logistical conditions for fostering their business. By joining the "World Logistic Passport", Serbia became the only country in Europe that will be part of this large supply chain in the world. We will practically be one of the twenty countries and the only country in Europe that will be able to distribute its products on more favorable terms", added Tomislav Momirović, the minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure.
Mike Bhaskaran, CEO of the World Logistics Passport, said that this program helps countries grow their economies and create jobs by boosting trade and making their products more competitive and accessible through more efficient supply chains. As Serbia continues its export-driven economic program, traders in the country will now be able to expand and discover more opportunities via Dubai.
The World Logistics Passport program is based on a partnership between traders, companies in the logistics sector and local entities to enable logistics in the form of fast lanes for the transport of goods, elimination of administrative costs, and faster customs clearance of goods. By joining the World Logistics Passport network, Serbian companies will be provided with a full range of benefits from the network's partners in Dubai.
Dubai is one of the WLP’s largest Hub countries, with 18 local partners such as DP World and Emirates Skycargo currently offering more than 80 benefits, such as more cost-effective and efficient cargo trade, to traders and freight forwarders.
The World Logistics Passport (WLP) is a global, private sector-led, initiative designed to smooth the flow of global trade, unlock market access through the creation of new trade routes, and provide economic efficiencies to members. Traders and freight forwarders get increased Benefits the more they trade through WLP Hubs. The Benefits include cost and time savings, and faster clearances. Unlocking these Benefits allows traders, nations, and regions to gain access to new markets, diversify trade-in existing products and increase market shares in key export products.
As it was pointed out, the companies can expect to have an annual increase in trade on average of up to 5-10%. Free to join, the WLP is inclusive, covering the entire trade ecosystem from freight and logistics to trade finance.
