The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia (CCIS) is a national partner in the project "European Ice Cream Road" (GELATOn the ROAD), which is funded by the EU program "Creative Europe" with the aim of promoting and preserving local cultural heritage and identity and raising awareness of the economic importance the ice cream production has.
Serbia is the only non-EU partner country included in GELATOn the ROAD, and the project includes 11 other countries - Italy, Belgium, Greece, Germany, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Spain, Poland, and Bulgaria.
The "European gelato route" will cover locations linked to ice cream production and culture, starting with the project partner countries, with the possibility of expansion throughout the EU.
The art of making ice cream in Europe was passed down from generation to generation, using local ingredients and traditional recipes. This project represents a step towards raising awareness of the cultural significance of ice cream and fostering a deeper appreciation of its rich history and enduring legacy. The project nurtures environmental sustainability as well as the quality of products and raw materials, and innovation within the artisan ice cream supply chain system.
The project started on April 1st and will end on March 31st, 2026. It brings together 14 European organizations, associations, chambers of commerce, and development agencies. Partners are Longarone Fiere, the Venice Cluster, the Belgian-Italian Chamber of Commerce, the Agrofood Partnerships of the Western Greece Region, Uniteis e.V., the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg, the Regional Development Agency ROD Ajdovščina, the Dignan Ecomuseum, the European Institute for Training and Research, the Cloud Computing Business Association of Catalonia, Regional Development Agency Rzeszów, Chamber of Commerce Vraca, DomSpain, as well as two associated partners: Parco Dolomiti Friuliane and the Council of Europe - office in Venice.
