At the Panel Discussion “Global Perspectives in the Fight against COVID-19“, at which participated the former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, and the former EBRD President, Suma Chakrabarti, Čadež said that ”nobody will be safe from the virus until we are all safe” which is why we have to establish a single framework to react quickly to the crises and global health problems.
”Our citizens can chose the vaccine because our political leadership and the Government of the Republic of Serbia were brave enough to start solving the problems with the pandemic on their own. Moreover, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia organized successfully the vaccination of businesspeople and citizens in the region, which was recognized by the global public”, said Čadež.
Having compared Europe with a company, Čadež underscored the importance of improving the education, technological development and digitalization in all segments, from the economy and finance to healthcare, so that Europe would be competitive with other continents.
”If we do not do that, Asia that is a fast-growing economy, will overrun Europe in a few years. And all of us have to think if Europe is a company in which somebody wants to invest! Serbia is not part of the European Union politically, but it is its economic part by no means. And from Serbia, we can see very well all the problems that have to be solved to enable Europe to keep pace with others”, added Čadež.
Suma Chakrabarti underscored that Serbia and other countries had managed to organize well the vaccination on the national level, but “on the global level, we have not agreed on how to carry out the vaccination efficiently“.
”The whole world has to get vaccinated and that is the only way to put the pandemic under control and recover the global economy”, said the former EBRD President.
According to Carl Bildt, the end of COVID-19 can still not be seen, and major challenges will be how to prevent some new pandemics and find adequate responses to the future crises.
“This requires the cooperation of all – the economy, governments, civil sector, science, medicine“, said Bildt, underlying that currently the vaccine production has not been monopolized because it is produced by a large number of companies in the world.
The participants at the Globsek Forum, in Bratislava, were also the Pope Francis, former and current Presidents of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar Kitarović and Zoran Milanović, President of Poland Andrzej Duda...
On the margins of the Forum, Čadež signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Lukaš Parizek, President of the Council of Slovak Exporters, with the aim to strengthen joint activities of the two associations on improving the economic cooperation and linking the business communities and businesspeople of Serbia and Slovakia.
