Association of Pharmaceutical and Medical Economy

The total gross value added (GVA) generated by Pharmaceutical and medical economy was around 3.3 billion EUR in 2024, which is the 4.6% of total GVA of the country and 3.9% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, around 2.9 billion EUR created by human health activities (90.0%). The other activities have a negligible contribution. From 2020 to 2024, GVA share of pharmaceutical and medical economy in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows stable trend.

Export of pharmaceutical products in 2025 amounted to 613.5 million EUR which is the 1.9% of total export but export of these products are higher than previous year by 39.0%. This industry is hiring 154.5 thousand of workers (6.7% of total employment) while the most are employed in human health services (138.2 thousand). In pharmaceutical industry in 2025 was operating 142 active companies and 6.5 thousand of entrepreneurs which is in total 6.6 thousand.
