The total gross value added (GVA) generated by Forestry, wood processing, furniture, and paper industries was around 626.6 million EUR in 2020, which is 1.6% of the total GVA of the country and 1.4% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, nearly 207.5 million EUR was created by the manufacture of paper products (33%) and 166.8 million EUR by the manufacture of furniture (26.6%). The other two activities have an equal contribution, of around 20%. From 2016 to 2020, GVA share of forestry, wood processing, furniture, and paper industries in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a stable trend.
Export of forestry, wood processing, furniture, and paper industries in 2021 amounted to 1.4 billion EUR which is 6.3% of total export and export of these products are a higher than the previous year (10.0%). This industry is hiring 55.2 thousand workers (2.5% of total employment) while the most are employed in the manufacture of furniture (21.9 thousand) and the manufacture of wood products (17.3 thousand). In forestry, wood processing, furniture, and paper industries in 2021 were operating 3.5 thousand active companies and 8.2 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total 11.8 thousand.
