The total gross value added (GVA) generated by the Electronic communications and information society was 3.0 billion EUR in 2021, which is 6.8% of the total GVA of the country and 5.7% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, around 1.2 billion EUR was created by computer programming, consultancy, and related activities (41.1%), and around 1.1 billion EUR by telecommunications (37.9%). From 2017 to 2020, GVA's share of electronic communications and information society in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia showed a slightly growing trend, but from 2020 shows a small decline.
Export of these goods in 2022 amounted to 466.6 million EUR which is 1.7% of total export but despite the negative effects caused by the Ukrainian crisis, export of these products are much higher in comparison to the previous year, by 41.6%. Also, the export of these services in 2022 was close to 2.7 billion EUR which is 24.4% of total services export. This sector of the economy is hiring 113.9 thousand workers (5.0% of total employment) while most are employed in computer programming, consultancy, and related activities (52.8 thousand) and postal and courier activities (18.2 thousand). In electronic communications and information society in 2022 was operating 7.8 thousand active companies and 20.9 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total around 28.7 thousand.
