The total gross value added (GVA) generated by the Electronic communications and information society was 2.7 billion EUR in 2020, which is 7.1% of the total GVA of the country and 6.1% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, around 1.1 billion EUR was created by telecommunications (41.4%) and nearly 1.1 billion EUR by computer programming, consultancy, and related activities (38.6%). From 2016 to 2019, GVA's share of electronic communications and information society in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a slightly growing trend, but from 2019 shows rapid growth.
Export of these goods in 2021 amounted to 329.6 million EUR which is 1.5% of total export but despite the negative effects caused by the pandemic, export of these products are completely recovered. Also, the export of these services in 2021 was closed to 1.5 billion EUR which is 23.9% of total services exported. This sector of the economy is hiring 102.2 thousand workers (4.6% of total employment) while most are employed in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (42.7 thousand) and postal and courier activities (18.2 thousand). In electronic communications and information society in 2021 was operating 6.8 thousand active companies and 17.6 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total around 24.4 thousand.
