The total gross value added (GVA) generated by the Transport sector was around 1.4 billion EUR in 2020, which is 3.6% of the total GVA of the country and 3.1% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, around 1.0 billion EUR was created by land transport and transport via pipelines (67.4%) and 435.2 million EUR by warehousing and support activities for transportation (30.7%). The other activities have a negligible contribution. From 2016 to 2020, the GVA share of transport in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a stable trend, with a decline in the last year.
Export of transport services in 2021 amounted to 1.3 billion EUR which is 16.5% of total export but due to the negative effects caused by the pandemic, export of these products are still lower than a pre-pandemic year (by 2.8%). This sector is hiring 106.7 thousand workers (4.8% of total employment) while most are employed inland transport and transport via pipelines (78.8 thousand). In Transport activities in 2021 was operating 8.5 thousand active companies and 28.7 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total nearly 37.2 thousand.
