The total gross value added (GVA) generated by the Transport sector was around 1.7 billion EUR in 2021, which is 3.8% of the total GVA of the country and 3.1% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, around 1.1 billion EUR was created by land transport and transport via pipelines (68.1%) and 482.7 million EUR by warehousing and support activities for transportation (29.1%). The other activities have a negligible contribution. From 2017 to 2018, the GVA share of transport in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a stable trend, with a decline from 2017 to 2020 and an upward trend in 2021.
Export of transport services in 2022 amounted to 1.9 billion EUR which is 17.5% of total export. The export of these products increased by 50% in comparison to the previous year. This sector is hiring 107.5 thousand workers (4.8% of total employment) while most are employed in land transport and transport via pipelines (78.3 thousand). In 2022, in transport activities, there were 8.8 thousand companies and 29.8 thousand entrepreneurs actively operating which in total makes it nearly 38.6 thousand.
