The total gross value added (GVA) generated by Trade sector was around 14.2 billion EUR in 2024, which is the 20.0% of total GVA of the country and 17.0% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, 5.8 billion EUR created by real estate activities (41.0%), 3.8 billion EUR by wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (29.0%) and nearly 4.0 billion EUR by retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (28.2%). From 2020 to 2024, GVA share of trade sector in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows slightly decreasing trend.
This sector is hiring 367.8 thousand of workers (15.9% of total employment) while the most are employed in retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (209.8 thousand) and in wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (115.8 thousand). In trade sector in 2025 was operating 41.3 thousand of active companies and 59.0 thousand of entrepreneurs which is in total around 100.3 thousand.
