Observed by activities, 3.6 billion EUR was created by real estate activities (36.5%), 3.3 billion EUR by wholesale trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (33.9%), and nearly 2.4 billion EUR by retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (24.2%). From 2017 to 2021, the GVA share of the trade sector in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a stable trend.
This sector is hiring 368.4 thousand workers (16.3% of total employment) while most are employed in retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (212.7 thousand), and in wholesale trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (116.5 thousand). In the trade sector in 2022 was operating 42.7 thousand active companies and 57.3 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total around 100.0 thousand.
