The total gross value added (GVA) generated by the tourism sector was around 940.4 million EUR in 2021, which is 2.1% of the country's total GVA and 1.8% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, around 533.3 million EUR were created by food and beverage service activities (56.7%) and 215.9 million EUR by sports, amusement, and recreation activities (23.0%). From 2017 to 2021, GVA's share of tourism activities in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a stable trend, with a sharp decline in 2020 due to the consequences of the pandemic.
Export of tourism services in 2022 amounted to 2.5 billion EUR which is 22.4% of total export and export of these services are much higher compared with 2021, by 55.9%. This sector is hiring 102.3 thousand workers (4.5% of total employment) while most are employed in food and beverage service activities (70.6 thousand). Tourism in 2022 was operating 7.8 thousand active companies and 28.0 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total 35.8 thousand.
