The total gross value added (GVA) generated by the textile industry was 400.9 million EUR in 2021, which is 0.9% of the country's total GVA and 0.8% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, 210.2 million EUR was created by the production of wearing apparel (52.4%) and 108.0 million EUR by the production of textiles (27.0%). From 2017 to 2021, the GVA share of the textile industry in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a downward trend.
The export of textile products in 2022 amounted to 1.6 billion EUR which is 5.7% of total export but despite the negative effects caused by the Ukrainian crisis, export of these products registered an increase of 21.0% in comparison to the previous year. The textile industry is hiring 61.0 thousand workers (2.7% of total employment), the majority of which are working in the sector of apparel manufacturing (35.3 thousand). In the textile industry, 1.8 thousand active companies and 6.1 thousand entrepreneurs were operating in 2022, which in total makes it nearly 7.9 thousand.
