Association of Stockbreeding and Livestock Product Processing

The total gross value added (GVA) generated by Stockbreeding and livestock product processing was around 4.5 billion EUR in 2021, which is 10.2% of the total GVA of the country and 8.4% of Serbia’s GDP. 

Observed by activities, nearly 3.2 billion EUR was created by crop and animal production (71.4%) and 1.2 billion EUR by the production of food products (27.4%). The other activities have a negligible contribution. From 2017 to 2021, the GVA share of stockbreeding and livestock in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a variable trend.

Export of livestock products in 2022 amounted to 4.0 billion EUR which is 14.4% of total export and export of these products are higher than the previous year by 11%. The stockbreeding sector is hiring 115.7 thousand workers (5.1 % of total employment) while most are employed in the manufacture of food products (89.7 thousand). In the stockbreeding sector in 2022 were operating 9.4 thousand active companies and 10.6 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total around 20.0 thousand.
