The total gross value added (GVA) generated by Stockbreeding and livestock product processing was around 4.5 billion EUR in 2024, which is the 6.4% of total GVA of the country and 5.4% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, nearly 2.5 billion EUR created by crop and animal production (55.0%) and 2.0 billion EUR by manufacture of food products (43.5%). The other activities have a negligible contribution. From 2020 to 2024, GVA share of stockbreeding and livestock in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a decreasing trend.
Export of livestock products in 2025 amounted to 4.1 billion EUR which is the 12.3% of total export and export of these products are higher than previous year by 0.5%. Stockbreeding sector is hiring 114.9 thousand of workers (5.0 % of total employment) while the most are employed in manufacture of food products (91.4 thousand). In stockbreeding sector in 2025 were operating 8.6 thousand of active companies and 11.1 thousand of entrepreneurs which is in total around 19.7 thousand.
