The total gross value added (GVA) generated by Private security and other service activities was around 6.3 billion EUR in 2021, which is 14.3% of the total GVA of the country and 11.8% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, nearly 2.0 billion EUR was created by public administration and defense, compulsory social security (31.6%), and 1.8 billion EUR by education (29.1%). The other activities have a lower contribution. From 2017 to 2020, GVA's share of private security and other service activities in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia registered an upward trend, while from 2020 to 2021 shows decreasing trend.
Export of these services in 2021 amounted to 184.4 million EUR which is 1.6% of total export. Despite the negative effects caused by the Ukrainian crisis, the export of these services is much higher than the previous year (by 44.2%). This sector of the economy is hiring 529.5 thousand workers (23.5% of total employment). The majority is employed in public administration and defense (159.2 thousand) and education (156.8 thousand). In private security and other service activities in 2022 there were 11.1 thousand active companies and 46.2 thousand entrepreneurs operating which in total makes around 57.3 thousand.
