The total gross value added (GVA) generated by Private security and other service activities was around 9.8 billion EUR in 2023, which is the 15.3% of total GVA of the country and 13.1% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, nearly 3.5 billion EUR created by public administration and defence, compulsory social security (35.6%) and 2.6 billion EUR by education (26.3%). The other activities have a lower contribution. From 2017 to 2020, GVA share of private security and other service activities in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows upward trend, from 2020 to 2022 decreases, but increases again in 2023.
Export of these services in 2024 amounted to 295.8 million EUR which is the 2.0% of total export but despite of the negative effects caused by global turbulences, export of these services are much higher than previous year (by 27.1%). This sector of economy is hiring 530.6 thousand of workers (22.9% of total employment) while the most are employed in public administration and defence (157.4 thousand) and education (151.3 thousand). In private security and other service activities in 2023 was operating 11.4 thousand of active companies and 53.5 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total around 64.9 thousand.
