The total gross value added (GVA) generated by Private security and other service activities was around 5.7 billion EUR in 2020, which is 14.7% of the total GVA of the country and 12.6% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, nearly 1.9 billion EUR was created by public administration and defense (33.0%) and 1.6 billion EUR by education (28.8%). The other activities have a lower contribution. From 2017 to 2020, GVA's share of private security and other service activities in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows an upward trend.
Export of these services in 2021 amounted to 127.9 million EUR which is 1.6% of total export but despite the negative effects caused by the pandemic, export of these services are much higher than the previous year (by 11.6%). This sector of the economy is hiring 518.4 thousand workers (23.4% of total employment) while most are employed in public administration and defense (156.7 thousand) and education (155.3 thousand). In private security and other service activities in 2021 was operating 10.9 thousand active companies and 48.0 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total around 58.9 thousand.
