The total gross value added (GVA) generated by the Construction industry was 3.3 billion EUR in 2020, which is 8.5% of the total GVA of the country and 7.3% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, around 953 million EUR were created by specialized construction activities (29%), 854 million EUR by the construction of buildings (26%), and 739 million by civil engineering (22%). From 2016 to 2020, the GVA share of the construction industry in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a growing trend.
Export of these goods in 2021 amounted to 227.5 million EUR which is 1.1% of total export but despite the negative effects caused by the pandemic, export of these products are a little bit higher than the previous year. Also, export of these services in 2021 amounted to 225.5 million EUR which is the 2.9% of total services export. This sector of the economy is hiring 165.2 thousand workers (7.5% of total employment) while the most are employed in specialised construction activities (59.3 thousand) and construction of buildings (32.7 thousand). In construction industry in 2021 was operating 17.0 thousand of active companies and 39.2 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total around 56.3 thousand.
