The total gross value added (GVA) generated by the Construction industry was 4.3 billion EUR in 2022, which is 8.4% of the total GVA of the country and 7.1% of Serbia’s GDP. Observed by activities, around 1.1 billion EUR was created by construction of buildings (25.0%), 1.2 billion EUR by specialized construction activities (28.4%), and 1.0 billion EUR by civil engineering (24.6%). From 2018 to 2022, the GVA share of the construction industry in total GVA and GDP of the Republic of Serbia shows a stable trend.
Export of these goods in 2023 amounted to 354.7 million EUR which is 1.2% of total export but despite the negative effects caused by Ukrainian crisis, exports of these products are slightly higher than the previous year (0.3%). Also, the export of these services in January-November 2023 amounted to 201.3 million EUR which is 1.7% of the total services export. This sector of the economy is hiring 178.0 thousand workers (7.7% of total employment) while most are employed in specialized construction activities (61.4 thousand) and architectural and engineering activities (38.1 thousand). In the construction industry in 2023 were 18.4 thousand active companies and 48.2 thousand entrepreneurs which is in total around 66.5 thousand.
